    Chemical Peel FAQ

    What is a chemical peel?

A chemical peel is the application of topical acids, such as glycolic and lactic acids, to the skin to exfoliate dead skin cells and prompt the skin to naturally repair itself to reveal newer, brighter skin Our chemical peels are customized depending on skin type and desired outcomes. Our skincare professionals may further customize your procedure with homecare products to pre-condition the skin or as a post treatment care to maximize results.

What skin conditions do chemical peels treat?

A chemical peel is a fantastic exfoliant for general maintenance, but it will also improve pigmentation, mild Rosacea, acne, or just liven up dull skin. A series of chemical peels can achieve amazing results!

    How do chemical peels work?

The chemical peel solution effectively dissolves the bonds between skin cells to reveal smoother, healthier skin.

What will I experience during a chemical peel?

Once the solution is applied to your skin, you may feel a tingling sensation. This mild discomfort subsides at the end of the treatment when the solution is neutralized. A peel may also result in some degree of redness depending on the strength of the solution. Skin that has become accustomed to the use of chemical peels will tolerate stronger formulations.

When should I get a chemical peel?

How frequently you should get a chemical peel will vary on your individual treatment plan and concentration of the peel, although in general chemical peels are done as a series of 3-6 treatments. During the series of treatments your skin may become more photosensitive and it is essential that a broad spectrum sunscreen is applied daily and diligently.

What is the strength of your chemical peel?

Most of us believe that concentration of a chemical peel determines its strength, but it is actually the pH and molecule size of the formulation that matters. The chemical acids are broken down by the PH of the formulation and the size of the molecule itself so the lower the pH, the stronger the acid is.

At this time Canada has strict regulations on the concentration and pH level of chemical peels. SkinCeuticals offers a chemical peel that is Health Canada approved and offers superior results.

How should I care for my skin after a chemical peel?

Immediately after a chemical peel, skin becomes more photosensitive. It is imperative that a broad spectrum sunscreen is applied daily post treatment, reapplied often, and that sun exposure is avoided or kept to a minimum.

Is there anything I can add to my chemical peel to boost my results?

Dermaplaning is a popular add-on that has quickly become a client favourite for its incredible immediate results. Smoother, brighter, peach fuzz free skin, all in an extra 20 minutes. We also have SkinCeuticals and AlumierMD professional products that we can add to treatments at the discretion of your medical aesthetician.
