How It Works

IPL and Nd:YAG laser energies are absorbed by the hemoglobin in visible leg veins. The heat generated causes damage to the vein walls, a process signals the body to treat the vein as non-functional, gradually breaking it down and clearing it through the body’s natural healing process, resulting in clearer, smoother skin over time.

IPL targets smaller, superficial veins close to the skin’s surface, while Nd:YAG lasers penetrate deeper for more stubborn or larger veins. Results vary depending on vein size, skin type, and overall vascular health, ensuring a personalized approach to achieving your best results.

    What are cosmetic leg veins?

Cosmetic leg veins, often referred to as spider veins or thread veins, are small, visible blood vessels near the surface of the skin. They are usually red, blue, or purple in colour.

How does laser or IPL treatment work for leg veins?

Laser and IPL treatments delivering focused light energy into the targeted blood vessels. This energy heats and damages the vein, causing it to collapse and gradually fade away.

    Is the treatment painful?

Most clients describe this treatment as a snapping sensation as the laser is pulsed, but it is usually well-tolerated.

How long does a leg vein treatment take?

A single treatment session typically takes 15 minutes to an hour, depending on the size and number of veins being treated.

    How many sessions are required?

The number of sessions required varies from person to person. Some may achieve satisfactory results after one session, while others may require multiple sessions spaced a few weeks apart.

    More FAQ

Is there downtime after a leg vein treatment?

There is usually little to no downtime after laser or IPL treatment for leg veins. You can return to your normal activities immediately, although it’s recommended to avoid strenuous exercise and sun exposure for a short period.

Are there any side effects or risks to leg vein treatment?

Side effects may include redness, swelling, bruising, or temporary darkening of the treated veins. Serious complications are rare but can include blistering, scarring, or changes in skin pigmentation.

How long do the results of leg vein treatment last?

Are leg vein treatments suitable for all skin types?

Laser and IPL treatments are generally safe for various skin types but may be less effective for very dark skin. Your provider will assess your skin type and recommend the most appropriate treatment.
