    Dermal Fillers FAQ

    What are dermal fillers?

Dermal fillers are a gel form of hyaluronic acid (HA), an organically-sourced sugar molecule that is naturally produced by the body in abundance. It is present in the highest quantity in areas demanding moisture, such as the joints and fluids of the eyes.

    How do dermal fillers work?

Fillers are injected into the skin in small amounts similar to applying a layer or a film. The HA in the filler draws moisture to the area to cause a soft and natural “plumping” that continues to improve over the following 2 weeks.

What is the procedure for injecting fillers?

Our aesthetic physician will discuss your personal concerns and let you know if you might benefit from dermal fillers. She will then determine your treatment plan and let you know the total cost. The treatment itself takes anywhere from a few minutes to half an hour, depending on the treated area. In some instances, where treatment is extensive, your treatment may be done over more than one visit.

    Does is hurt?

The doctor is a very experienced aesthetic injector and will assure you are comfortable throughout your entire appointment. In some cases, she may apply a topical numbing cream, but many dermal fillers are pre-mixed with an anaesthetic.

    What areas benefits?

Dermal fillers are most often used to restore the fat volume that is lost with age in areas such as the lips, cheeks, temples, teartroughs and hands. It is also effectively used to fill lines and folds, such as nasolabial folds (the lines between the nose and corners of the mouth) and forehead lines. Dermal Filler is used to correct depressed areas, such as acne scars, or to sculpt, shape and define the bridge of the nose, jawline or chin.

When will I see results from treatments?

The effects of dermal fillers can be seen immediately but will continue to improve and soften over the first few weeks.

    What are typical side effects?

As with any type of injection, bruising is always a possibility, but you will most likely experience a little swelling and soreness for a few days.

How long do dermal fillers last?

The benefits of temporary dermal fillers last an average of a year, although semi-permanent dermal fillers can last for several years.
