Permanent Makeup Training

About Halcyon Cosmetic Academy

Halcyon Cosmetic Academy provides online, hands-on, and combination fundamental and advanced microblading and permanent makeup training. Our courses and programs are suitable for both professionals as well as those new to the field.

Our classes are taught by Stephanie Wilson, CPCP CTAE and Kelly Hallam, RTNM CPCP.
Stephanie is a licensed esthetician with over 20 years’ experience in permanent makeup. She is CPCP certified, and SPCP Trainer Member, and a Certified Trainer and Assessor (CTAE). She is a respected instructor, known for her clear, organized, and easy-to-follow courses and programs.
Along with her permanent makeup experience and CPCP certification, Kelly brings 20 years of medical experience. As a senior Nuclear Medicine Technologist, she spent many years providing student instruction and evaluation in the hospital setting. Kelly has a very encouraging and positive approach to teaching.
Together Kelly and Stephanie are two of the most experienced permanent makeup and paramedical tattoo artists and instructors in Canada.

We have been teaching advanced techniques for some time but thought long and hard before deciding to offer foundational training in microblading and permanent makeup. Ultimately, our decision to offer beginner fundamental programs was based on our love of our industry, and the desire to improve it. We provide ethical, scientifically accurate foundational training, because a solid foundation is absolutely mandatory for success.

What is permanent makeup training?

We do beginners & advanced permanent makeup and microblading training at Halcyon. Our fundamental classes are designed for anyone with no previous experience wanting to begin in the industry. Our advanced training means that you have taken a previous course and have some experience but need help or want to add additional services to your clients.

Where are permanent makeup classes held?

All classes are held at our Port Moody Clinic located in Vancouver, BC. 2604 St. Johns Street, Port Moody, BC, V3H 0B5.

How much does training cost?

Our class prices vary, but the average daily rate is between $800 and $1250, a little less if your class is an add-on to another. The bonus is that these are Canadian prices so for our US artists this works out to be much less! Please check the pricing of upcoming classes for definitive rates.

Who are the instructors?

Classes are taught by Kelly Hallam, RTNM CPCP and Stephanie Wilson, CPCP who between them share over 20 years each of permanent cosmetics and medical experience. We also host a variety of fabulous artists we love and respect and have trained with ourselves.

How many students are in each class?

We prefer to keep our classes intimate so there is a maximum of 4 students per instructor although this may vary if we are hosting someone special 🙂

Do you do 1-on-1 training?

Absolutely! If you’re interested in 1-on-1 training, please contact us. In fact, we enjoy this the most! Being able to spend time on what you are struggling with the most and skipping past what you already understand allows us to squeeze the most out of your training time. We are also able to provide some 1-on-1 time with students in our group classes because class sizes are small enough to allow it.

Will you train my cosmetics services staff?

If you have a group we would love to train you all and can arrange to travel to your location to do this type of training. If you’d like to arrange group training, please contact us.

Do I need professional permanent makeup experience to take a class?

This is not required for our fundamental classes, however our advanced classes do require you to have some previous permanent makeup training or experience. Although everyone’s background differs, we have you fill out a questionnaire to assess your level of understanding prior to your course so that it can be customized for you. For prospective students with little or no experience, we offer training in both Permanent makeup & microblading fundamentals. If you’re interested in fundamentals training, please contact us.

How do I know if a permanent makeup career is right for me?

If you’re interested in a career in permanent makeup artistry, read our blog post “A Microblading Career – What is Required for Success?

Are there any prerequisites required before I can enroll in permanent makeup classes?

Not for our fundamental training but for our advanced classes some type of previous training as well as a Bloodborne Pathogens course is required. *For potential SPCP certification exam, only certain types of Bloodborne Pathogen courses are accepted. Please contact us for information.

Can I take a class if I live in another province or in the U.S?

Of course you can! We’d love to show you around beautiful Port Moody and Vancouver, BC!

If I travel to British Columbia for training, where can I stay? Do you arrange flights and hotels?

We do not arrange flights or hotels but do know our area very well. Call us to discuss your best bet for flights as well as accommodations.

Do you provide a training kit, equipment or supplies with your classes?

We always provide the tools you need to take the class and also have an optional “machine” but we are not biased and our goal is to educate you on the various options available. You can always call us to discuss this.
