Halcyon Cosmetic provides hands-on, advanced permanent makeup and tattoo removal training to professional microblading, tattoo and permanent makeup artists.

Our classes are taught by Kelly Hallam, RTNM, CPCP and Stephanie Wilson, CPCP, CTAE. Along with her permanent makeup experience and CPCP certification, Kelly brings 20 years of medical experience. As a senior Nuclear Medicine Technologist she spent many years providing student instruction and evaluation in the hospital setting and has a very encouraging and positive approach to her teaching. Stephanie is a licensed esthetician with an astounding 20 years’ experience in permanent makeup and a Certified Trainer and Assessor (CTAE). She is well known for her simple and easy-to-follow, organized instruction. Together Kelly and Stephanie are two of the most experienced permanent makeup and paramedical tattoo artists and instructors in Canada.

We have been approached numerous times to provide foundational training in microblading and PMU but prefer to focus on advanced instruction and improving upon what artists have learned elsewhere. We do understand that it is difficult to find ethical, scientifically accurate foundational training, and that a solid foundation is mandatory for success, so we have prepared individual components of fundamentals that artists can easily access to build their knowledge in areas they may be lacking.

FAQ

What is permanent makeup training?

We do advanced permanent makeup and microblading training at Halcyon. For us that means that you have taken a previous course and have some experience but need help or want to add additional services to your clients.

Where are permanent makeup classes held?

Our classes are currently held at our tiny Port Moody studio in Klahanie as we await construction of our brand new clinic space on St. Johns Street!

How much does training cost?

Our class prices vary, but the average daily rate is between $900 and $1200, a little less if your class is an add-on to another. The bonus is that these are Canadian prices so for our US artists this works out to be much less! Please check the pricing of upcoming classes for definitive rates.

Who are the instructors?

Classes are taught by Kelly Hallam, RTNM CPCP and Stephanie Wilson, CPCP who between them share over 20 years each of permanent cosmetics and medical experience. We also host a variety of fabulous artists we love and respect and have trained with ourselves.

How many students are in each class?

We prefer to keep our classes intimate so there is a maximum of 4 students per instructor although this may vary if we are hosting someone special 🙂

Do you do 1-on-1 training?

Absolutely! If you’re interested in 1-on-1 training, please contact us. In fact, we enjoy this the most! Being able to spend time on what you are struggling with the most and skipping past what you already understand allows us to squeeze the most out of your training time. We’re also able to provide some 1-on-1 time with students in our group classes because class sizes are small enough to allow it.

Will you train my cosmetics services staff?

If you have a group we would love to train you all and will often travel to your location to do this type of training. If you’d like to arrange group training, please contact us.

Do I need professional permanent makeup experience to take a class?

Most classes require you to have some previous permanent makeup training or experience. Although everyone’s background differs, we have you fill out a questionnaire to assess your level of understanding prior to your course so that it can be customized for you. For prospective students with little or no experience, occasionally we offer training in microblading fundamentals. If you’re interested in fundamentals training, please contact us.

How do I know if a permanent makeup career is right for me?

If you’re interested in a career in permanent makeup artistry, read our blog post “A Microblading Career – What is Required for Success?

Are there any prerequisites required before I can enroll in permanent makeup classes?

Yes. Some type of previous training as well as a Bloodborne Pathogens course, preferably the one that we suggest!

Can I take a class if I live in another province or in the U.S?

Of course you can! We’d love to show you around beautiful Port Moody and Vancouver, BC!

If I travel to British Columbia for training, where can I stay? Do you arrange flights and hotels?

We do not arrange flights or hotels but do know our area very well. Call us to discuss your best bet for flights as well as accommodations.

Do you provide a training kit, equipment or supplies with your classes?

We always provide the tools you need to take the class and and also have an optional “machine” but we are not biased and our goal is to educate you on the various options available. You can always call us to discuss this.
