Halcyon Cosmetic Clinic provides microneedling treatments to clients in Coquitlam, Port Coquitlam and Port Moody. Clients also come to us from other parts of Greater Vancouver and the Fraser Valley for our expertise and customer care.

Microneedling (Collagen Induction Therapy) is customized to address your particular concerns. At Halcyon Cosmetic Clinic we use Health Canada approved devices, including the Eclipse Micropen Elite and the E-Pen, to safely target both the dermis and epidermis to stimulate collagen production and improve:

  • Dull, aging skin
  • Fine lines
  • Enlarged pores
  • Rough, uneven skin texture
  • Skin tone and colour
  • Acne and surgical scars

A series of microneedling treatments is usually suggested, combined with medical grade products to treat, hydrate and restore while avoiding significant downtime. We use effective numbing creams for deeper treatments to ensure your comfort through the procedure.

All microneedling treatments are fast, safe, effective and provide maximum results. If you’re considering skin rejuvenation, but don’t know where to begin, microneedling is a great option, suitable for almost everyone.

If you’re unsure if microneedling is right for you, please book a complimentary consultation.

    Microneedling FAQ

    What is microneedling?

Microneedling is a minimally invasive procedure that creates microscopic injuries to trigger the skin’s natural repair processes, resulting in increased collagen and elastin production.

What are the benefits of microneedling?

Microneedling improves the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles, acne scars, stretch marks, and overall skin texture. It is also effective at breaking up clusters of pigmented cells to create a more even tone.

    Can anyone have microneedling?

Microneedling will benefit almost everyone, though it is not recommended for those with active or open acne lesions or with pre-cancerous or cancerous lesions. Should our aesthetician note any areas of concern, you may require a clearance letter from your dermatologist prior to proceeding.

Is microneedling better than wrinkle injection treatments?

Yes, and no. Wrinkle injection treatments stop muscle contraction (such as when frowning) to prevent permanent wrinkle formation as well as reduce the appearance of wrinkles. Microneedling softens and minimizes texture changes caused by aging, which includes fine lines and wrinkles, but wrinkles caused by muscle contraction will continue to progress over time without injectable treatment – it’s always best to combine both if wrinkles are your main concern!

What type of provider performs microneedling?

Anyone can purchase a microneedling device in Canada, especially one that is not Health Canada approved, but it is our opinion is that this procedure should never be performed by anyone other than a trained healthcare professional or a licensed aesthetician.

There are many types of skin lesions (including melanoma) that your microneedling provider needs to be able to recognize and identify and should never treat over.

What type of device is used for microneedling?

Professional microneedling pens are Class 2 Medical devices that must be Health Canada approved. They are pen-like, battery powered, handheld devices that are used with single-use, disposable, ultra-fine needle cartridges.

Although there are many needle “rollers” and “stamping” devices available for amateur or home use, Health Canada approval ensures both quality and safety. You can look up licensed medical devices in Canada on the Medical Devices Active License Listing (MDALL). Our Health Canada approved E-PEN is License No. 104107.

What is the cost of microneedling?

Professional microneedling cost will vary depending on the area treated; the type of device, needle cartridge, and anaesthetic used; the expertise and experience of your aesthetician; and the location of your clinic; but ranges from $200 – $700 in the lower mainland. Our microneedling prices are very competitive.

    Is microneedling worth the expense?

Microneedling is one of the most affordable treatments to effectively address fine lines, wrinkles, acne scars, stretch marks, and overall skin texture. Studies show results after a series of microneedling treatments to be similar to fractional laser treatment, but without the added risks that come with a heat-producing laser energy device.

    Is microneedling available in packages?

At Halcyon Cosmetic Clinic, microneedling is available on its own or in packages of 3 or 5. It is also included in many of our facial membership plans. Contact us for a complimentary consultation if you are unsure which option is right for you.

    Does microneedling hurt?

The comfort of collagen induction therapy will depend upon your skin concerns, which will affect depth of penetration as well as coverage but overall, it is a comfortable procedure when effective topical anaesthetic is used.

How long does a microneedling treatment take?

The duration of your treatment will depend on the area being treated and reason for treatment, but a full-face procedure takes approximately 20 minutes.

What can I expect during my microneedling appointment?

After our aesthetician greets you and welcomes you into our treatment room, if appropriate, change into a treatment gown.

What should I expect right after my microneedling treatment?

Immediately after the procedure our aesthetician may cool your skin and apply an anti-redness serum or a calming mask, followed by a post-procedure moisturizer and protector to promote healing, and an SPF to protect your skin from sun exposure. It is normal to see pinpoints of blood at the surface of your skin, though these are usually easily cleaned prior to leaving our clinic. Your skin may continue to feel hot and a bit dry for a day or so, somewhat like a mild sunburn.

How long will it take my skin to heal after microneedling?

Although pinpoints of blood at the surface of your skin are normal immediately after microneedling, once the skin is cleansed and post-care products are applied, our clients generally leave with only a flushed appearance and a hot, dry sensation that may last up to a day or two. After this, the skin may continue to feel dry for a few more days, and you may experience some roughness and/or flaking.

When will I see the results of microneedling?

You may immediately notice improvement of lines, wrinkles and texture due to procedural swelling but full benefits of your procedure won’t be seen for 4-6 weeks.

Will I see results after one microneedling treatment?

Although every microneedling treatment will benefit the skin, and some clients notice an improvement in skin texture and tone after just one treatment, most will require more than one treatment for a noticeable difference.

How many microneedling treatments will I need?

The number of microneedling treatments required will depend upon your skin concerns and their severity. Most people see improvements after 3-5 treatments but stretch marks or deeper scars may take a number of sessions.

How long do the results of microneedling last?

The results of your microneedling, including breakdown of damaged cells and increased collagen and elastin production, don’t really go away, but unfortunately the clock keeps ticking and your skin will continue to age. To slow this process as much as possible we advise the ABC’s of dermatological care: a scientifically proven Vitamin C serum, a retinol, and daily application (and reapplication) of SPF.

Can I combine microneedling with other treatments to get even better results?

Absolutely! Ask us about our many options, but microneedling is a fantastic treatment following chemical (peel) or physical (dermaplaning) exfoliation as well as Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) for the ultimate in anti-aging services!

    Can microneedling damage my skin?

Although professional microneedling should only improve your skin, there are minor risks to all aesthetic and medical procedures that will be explained to you prior to your treatment and outlined on your treatment consent form.

Risks increase significantly with the use of an unlicensed device or unlicensed needle cartridges, and when microneedling is performed by anyone other than a licensed aesthetician or medical professional.

What forms of payment do you accept?

For individual microneedling treatments and packages we accept cash, etransfer, debit, Visa, Mastercard, and American Express. We also offer affordable financing with Sezzle (4 payments over 6 weeks) or iFinance Canada (payment terms 6 mos – 5 yrs). Our facial memberships that include microneedling can be pre-paid with the above options or set up on our monthly payment plan.
