Microneedling

Collagen Induction Therapy

Targeted Skin Rejuvenation

Halcyon Cosmetic Clinic provides microneedling treatments to clients in Coquitlam, Port Coquitlam and Port Moody. Clients also come to us from other parts of Greater Vancouver and the Fraser Valley for our expertise and customer care. Microneedling (Collagen Induction Therapy) is a minimally invasive procedure that targets both the dermis and epidermis to stimulate collagen production and improve:

  • Dull, aging skin
  • Fine lines
  • Enlarged pores
  • Rough, uneven skin texture
  • Scars
Microneedling (Collagen Induction Therapy) is available as a “medical” treatment or a gentler, less invasive “aesthetic” treatment, depending on the depth required to achieve your desired results. Aesthetic microneedling treatments combine a lighter needle depth, medical grade products and a series of treatments to achieve long-lasting results for skin resurfacing, anti-aging, skin tightening, hydration and restoration without the need for downtime or anasthetics. We use effective numbing creams for deeper treatments to ensure your comfort through the procedure.
All microneedling treatments are fast, safe, effective and provide maximum results with minimal downtime. If you’re considering skin rejuvenation, but don’t know where to begin, microneedling is for you.

Microneedling FAQ

What is microneedling?

Performed by a skincare professional or doctor, microneedling is a minimally invasive procedure that uses a handheld device with very fine needles to create a controlled injury to the skin. This triggers the skin’s natural repair processes, stimulating collagen and elastin production. This procedure is most commonly used to help improve the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles, acne scars, stretch marks, and skin texture.

What is the difference between medical and aesthetic microneedling?

At Halcyon Cosmetic Clinic we use these names to differentiate between treatment depths and offer aesthetic microneedling as an add-on to our Skinceuticals Targeted Treatments. The needle depth is lighter so there is minimal, to no, downtime. Results can be just as good as with deeper treatments but you may require more visits to achieve these results. We recommend a series of 6 treatments over 4 months.

Who is a good candidate for microneedling?

Microneedling is a great treatment for nearly everyone although darker skintones (Fitzpatrick skin types V-VI), should consult with their skincare professional prior to treatment as it may trigger a pigment response in the skin. Anyone with active acne, infection or lesions in the area to be treated should wait until the skin has cleared before treatment. All scars should be assessed for suitability prior to treatment.

How should I prepare for microneedling treatments?

Do not use exfoliating skin care products on the area the week before your treatment and if you have ever had a cold sore and we are treating near your lips you should have a prescription antiviral on hand.

What will I experience during my treatment?

Microneedling treatments take from 15 minutes to an hour depending upon the area being treated. The depth of the treatment will affect whether there is any discomfort or bleeding and deeper treatments require topical anaesthetic to ensure your comfort. The treatment itself is painless though some describe it as feeling “prickly”.

Do treatments hurt?

Collagen induction therapy is a comfortable procedure when effective numbing agents are used. After the procedure your skin may feel slightly sunburnt for a day or so. If you are after a gentler approach with no downtime or need for anasthetics, we offer a less-invasive “aesthetic” microneedling option.

How long will my skin take to heal?

Full healing takes 4-6 weeks depending on your age and skin type. Our aesthetic microneedling option has minimal visible healing while our medical microneeding may result in pinpoint bleeding and redness that remains for a day or so. You may apply a mineral makeup if desired.

How many microneedling treatments will I need?

The number of treatments required varies from person to person. In some instances one treatment is enough, but usually 3-8 treatments, 4-8 weeks apart will better achieve your goals and provide the best results. With Aesthetic Microneedling you can get a quick “glow” from 1 treatment but will require a series of 6 treatments spaced over 4 months to achieve lasting results.

How long will the results last?

Microneedling will stimulate collagen and elastin production to strengthen and thicken your own cellular matrix, so results are long-lasting, although your skin will continue to age.

How should I care for my skin after a treatment?

You should protect your skin with a daily SPF of at least 30 for 6 weeks following any microneedling treatment.

Can I combine microneedling with laser skin rejuvenation?

Yes! Combining microneedling with Laser Genesis skin rejuvenation provides the overall skin rejuvenation benefits of laser with targeted collagen induction treatments for problem areas.
