Dermaplaning

Reveal Vibrant Skin with Gentle Dermaplaning Exfoliation

Dermaplaning manual exfoliation clears away damaged cells on the surface of your skin, leaving it feeling soft and smooth, and looking youthful and radiant.

This painless treatment is available on its own, or as an add-on to almost all of our facial treatments and will improve laser or IPL penetration as well as maximize product absorption. It is especially effective prior to any Chemical Peel or our signature AlumierMD Glow Peel.

Dermaplaning removes “baby” hair and dead skin cells simultaneously and is appropriate for all skin types, including:

  • Dull or dry skin,
  • Sun-damaged skin,
  • Fine lines and wrinkles, and
  • Acne scarring

Although Halcyon Cosmetic & Skin Clinic primarily serves clients in Port Moody, Coquitlam and Port Coquitlam, clients come to us from all over the Lower Mainland for dermaplaning treatments.

    FAQ

    How does dermaplaning work?

Dermaplaning uses a sterile blade to remove dead skin cells and debris. It is a manual exfoliation that does not use acids or enzymes to remove the dead skin cells. You will not peel or visibly shed skin after your Dermaplaning treatment.

Who is a good candidate for dermaplaning?

Dermaplaning is great for all skin types but there are some exceptions. These include, skin with active breakouts and men with heavy facial hair. If you have active acne, we offer other treatments that would be a better option. If you are pregnant or nursing, this can be a great alternative that offers superior exfoliation without the use of chemicals.

We always suggest that you discuss any allergies or skin sensitivities with your skin care professional before a procedure.

What are the benefits of a dermaplaning service?

This treatment will leave your skin looking and feeling more radiant with a more even skin tone and texture. The added benefit of this service is the removal of facial hair or “peach fuzz” and, although this service is primarily an exfoliation treatment, this bonus will leave your skin smooth and soft. Your skin care products will have more efficacy as they will be able to penetrate the skin more efficiently after the removal of the dry, dead skin cells.

    Will dermaplaning cause breakouts?

Quite simply, no. A build up of dead skin can clog your pores and hair follicles, causing pimples and stopping your skincare products from penetrating the skin. For this reason, exfoliation is essential for maintaining healthy skin and preventing breakouts.

Will my hair grow back thicker and darker?

Dermaplaning does not change your natural hair growth. However, as it begins to grow back it may feel slightly different because the hair is cut straight across, but it will quickly soften to the same texture as it was before and it will grow at the same speed.

How often can I have dermaplaning?

It is best to allow the skin to complete its rejuvenation cycle before your next treatment. The average skin will take 21 days to complete this cycle.

Can I add on dermaplaning to other treatments?

Yes! We encourage you to do so as dermaplaning will always result in better product and IPL or laser energy absorption. Dermaplaning is a fantastic preparatory treatment for many of our skincare services, including chemical peels, microneedling and IPL.
