Understanding Scar Appearance and Treatment Timing
Scars vary widely in appearance depending on how they heal, how old they are, and how the surrounding skin behaves. While some fade naturally, others remain visibly lighter, redder, or texturally different long after healing.
At Halcyon Cosmetic & Skin Studio, scar treatment is approached clinically — not cosmetically. Our focus is not to mask scars prematurely, but to restore balance and integration using the right treatment, in the right sequence. Depending on the scar, this may involve laser, microneedling, or — in very specific cases — scar camouflage tattooing.
Located in Port Moody, we regularly treat clients from Coquitlam, Port Coquitlam, and Greater Vancouver seeking evidence-informed scar restoration rather than one-size-fits-all solutions.
Scar Treatment Goals
- Less contrast between scar tissue and surrounding skin colour
- Improved texture, softness, and skin quality
- More even tone and integration over time
- Conservative, criteria-based treatment planning
- Access to multiple modalities — not one default treatment
- Care delivered by an experienced, certified practitioner
How Scar Treatment Works
Every scar is assessed individually. In most cases, treatment begins by addressing redness, pigmentation, or vascular activity using laser to reduce contrast between scar tissue and healthy skin. Microneedling may be introduced to soften scar tissue, stimulate collagen, and improve elasticity.
Scar camouflage tattooing is considered only after a scar is fully healed, stable, and light in colour, and only when other modalities can no longer meaningfully improve the result. It is never used on dark, pigmented, red, or actively remodeling scars, and is approached as a final step — not a starting point.
This staged approach protects long-term outcomes and ensures results remain natural, predictable, and appropriate for the scar itself.
