What is Microneedling and What Can It Do for My Skin?

What is microneedling? We’re frequently asked this question, so we thought we’d write a short post describing the basics of this effective skin treatment.

Are you looking for a safe anti-aging treatment, with little to no downtime, that will surprise you with fantastic results? Microneedling, also known as Collagen Induction Therapy, improves the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, acne scars, and the texture changes that occur with age, as well as the overall tone and brightness of your skin.

Read our microneedling FAQ.

How Microneedling Works

Professional microneedling devices are electric pen-like tools with single-use, disposable tips that house an array of very fine needles that move rapidly in an up and down motion. Most medical-grade microneedling devices approved by Health Canada include adjustable penetration depth for your aesthetician to better target your specific concerns. The tiny needles create controlled micro injuries in the skin which jump start the production of collagen and elastin. The micro channels created in the skin have the added benefit of allowing for active ingredients to absorb more effectively and deeply during your treatment.

What Microneedling Can Treat

Microneedling is not only effective for the face and neck, it is also a great treatment for other areas, and can help improve the appearance of stretch marks, traumatic scars and uneven tone. If you’ve suffered from back acne and are left with discoloration and scarring, a series of microneedling treatments can be done to soften, smooth and clear the skin.

Of course, At Halcyon Cosmetic Clinic there’s always a cherry on top. Our licensed and very experienced aestheticians don’t believe in quickie in and out treatments. Even if you’ve had microneedling done elsewhere, we can bet you haven’t experienced it like this!

Tips for safe and effective treatments:

  • Beware of inexpensive manual stamping devices, in which the precision of penetration depth as well as thorough and even coverage are much less controlled.
  • Understand that in many cases, deeper penetration is not better. Research has shown very shallow (less painful) and more frequent treatments to be just as effective.
  • Ensure your treatment provider is a qualified and licensed aesthetician. It has recently become commonplace for a variety of other non-skincare professionals to offer this service.
